Welcome once again! Nice to see you.
Let’s check out the next verse in the Bhagavad Gita (BG), Chapter 2 - Contents of Bhagavad Gita Summarized.
Never was there a time when I did not exist, nor you, nor all these kings; nor in the future shall any of us cease to be.
BG 02.12 (Bhagavad Gita As It Is, Chapter 2, Verse 12)*
In this verse, Krishna gives a basic intro into who we are. He says - we will always exist and never die. How is that possible?
Every single living entity in creation comprises:
The body
The individual soul (jiva atma)
The Super soul (paramatma)
What you see in the mirror is your body - the gross body. What’s inside of you like muscles, bones, blood etc is also part of this gross body. You also have a subtle body which is the mind, intelligence & false ego.
The individual soul or the jiva atma powers the body. This is the true, YOU. But most humanity considers the body to be the self. This is a wrong notion.
There is an expansion of the Supreme Lord in the heart of every living entity called the Paramatma (Super Soul), watching the desires & actions of a living being.
In the upcoming newsletters, we will go through each of the above in great detail.
Conclusion
So, in this verse Krishna is educating Arjuna (and us) that the body will die but the soul lives on. Therefore, if you identify with your body, then there is death. But if you identify with the soul, then there is no death. Krishna tells Arjuna, this is true for everyone, including every king & soldier on the battlefield. So why feel sad & fearful?
What do we learn from this issue?
YOU
are not temporary but eternal.
